Sabrina Annlynn Carpenter was born on May 11, 1999, in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. She has three older sisters and was homeschooled. She first gained recognition for starring in the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World (2014–17). In 2014, Sabrina released her debut single, "Can't Blame a Girl for Trying". In the 2010s, she released four studio albums, to limited commercial success.
Carpenter signed with Island Records in 2021 and released the single "Skin" which became her first entry on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her fifth studio album, Emails I Can't Send was supported by the singles "Nonsense" and "Feather". In 2024, she opened for Taylor Swift at the Eras Tour, increasing her mainstream prominence. Carpenter's upcoming album, Short n' Sweet, is preceded by the singles "Espresso" and "Please Please Please". Espresso reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, while Please Please Please became her first Billboard Hot 100 chart topper, making number 1 on June 29, 2024.
Please Please Please contains musical influences of disco-pop, country, and yacht rock; lyrically, the singer instructs her boyfriend (played by Saltburn’s Barry Keoghan in the music video - also her current partner at the time of the video - not so much now apparently) not to blunder and blemish her reputation.
The song received acclaim from music critics upon release. Outside of the United States, the song topped the charts in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, and the United Kingdom. It peaked within the top ten in 18 other countries, including Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Sweden.
She is also a niece of actress Nancy Cartwright, whose voice has graced our televsion screens for 35 years as Bart Simpson!
