This was an original from Carlos do Carmo (Eurovision 1976, Portugal) included on his 1977 LP "Um homem na cidade". A typical fado, a bit happier that the usual fado songs. All about an iconic landmark in Lisbon, Feira da Ladra (thieves market), an open air market which happens every Tuesday and Saturday. It is a "world" inside the city where you can find everything (well... almost everything), at reasonable prices, deal prices but also way over the mark prices. It is fascinating, but you need to take your time and know how to negotiate and you may come home with great stuff!
In 2004 there was an homage CD: "Novo (new) homem na cidade". Several artists recorded their own version of the songs included in the original LP and our amazing Sara Tavares gave us this "Nova Feira da Ladra". It is such a great cover in my opinion, where you can still feel a bit of the Portuguese guitarra but this time with an African flavour in the soft and beautiful voice from Sara.
I hope you like it!
